Lloyd Virgil Christmas is a former limousine driver who lives in Providence with his best friend and roommate, Harry Dunne. He is quite an immature man who goes traveling with his friend all across the United States. He is the main protagonist of the Dumb and Dumber franchise. In the first film, he is shown as a scatterbrained limo driver. In the second, he is shown with a large, light brown beard in the sequel.

Personality[]

Lloyd Virgil Christmas is a charming, goofy, loud-mouthed, childlike, flighty, and abrasive bowl-cutted gentleman, and has a penchant for getting in trouble. However, for all his bluster, the handsome Lloyd is a deeply compassionate and generous person who is extremely loyal to his friends, namely his best one, Harry Dunne. He is what many people call "a five-year-old trapped in a grown man's body." Lecherous, even, he has perverted thoughts of women, regardless of their status or age, as shown with his crushes on Mary Swanson and Penny Pinchelow, he even shares Harry's weakness for big breasted women.

Behind the Scenes[]

While the studio and the Farrelly brothers agreed on Jim Carrey starring, its budget and overall marketing scope was entirely dependent on the success or failure of Carrey’s second starring role, The Mask, which released only weeks before principal photography was due to commence.

Fortunately, The Mask was a huge box-office success upon release and gave the studio confidence in providing a broader budget and more exposure in marketing. Carrey loved the script and loved the opportunity to actually partake in a buddy comedy.

Carrey was involved heavily in casting the role of Harry. He and the Farrelly’s loved Jeff Daniels audition and Carrey felt a more established dramatic actor, who could be funny, was better than casting just another comedian. However, the studio balked at Daniels casting and were against it all the way up until release. They provided him an unfair salary and made threats of replacing him, hoping he would eventually leave the project. However, Carrey, the Farrelly’s and Daniels stood their ground.
